§ Mr. PEASEThe payments into the Exchequer between the 1st April and the 17th June, 1922, were £2,000,000 in excess of the payments during the corresponding period in 1921. This increase is accounted for almost entirely 2064 by the telephone receipts, which were abnormally low in the early months of 1921–22 owing to the introduction of the system of deferred payments under the new tariff.
