HC Deb 26 June 1922 vol 155 c1675
83. Rear-Admiral ADAIR

asked the Parliamentary Secretary to the Admiralty whether an officer and men of His Majesty's Navy who, under Fleet Order No. 2,051, are entitled to bars to their medals may at their own expense purchase miniatures of them and wear them with miniature medals; if so, will he notify the officers and men of the Fleet accordingly; and will he notify the officers and men of the Fleet that they should at once send in their claims for such bars as under Fleet Order No. 2,051 they are entitled to?

Mr. AMERY

It is not considered necessary to issue a Fleet Order in regard to the wearing of miniature clasps. As regards the last part of the question, I regret that, as I informed my hon. and gallant Friend on the 21st June, it is impossible at present to undertake any work connected with the issue of clasps, and no claims can therefore be considered.

Rear-Admiral ADAIR

Does that mean that officers may wear miniature bars if they know that those bars are due to them?

Mr. AMERY

The matter is subject to further consideration later.

Rear-Admiral ADAIR

They are permitted to wear them at their own risk?

Mr. AMERY

At their own risk.

Lieut. - Colonel ARCHER-SHEE

As officers of the Army are not allowed to wear bars, because they have not been officially issued, surely naval officers ought not to be allowed to wear them either?

Mr. AMERY

No official permission has been given. It is at the officers' own risk.
