Mr. CLYNESasked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that the order for the deportation of Zaghloul Pasha was made before the declaration of independence of Egypt state under what authority the order is being maintained; and whether, in view of such declaration of independence, the British Government will now revoke its order?
Mr. HARMSWORTHThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The detention in exile of Zaghloul Pasha now depends on the legislation of the place where he is detained. It does not depend on any decision taken under martial law in Egypt. The answer to the last part of the question is in the negative.
