HC Deb 26 July 1922 vol 157 c447
36. Captain CRAIG

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that the pension of William Brown, ex-Royal Irish Constabulary, which was due on the let of July, has not yet been paid; and whether he will make further inquiries into the causes of the delay in the payment of pensions?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Sir Hamar Greenwood)

I regret that on the information given in the question it is not possible to identify this case, but if my hon. and gallant Friend will give me particulars of this man's rank and service, I shall be happy to make inquiries.

37. Captain CRAIG

asked the. Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that ex-Head Constable George Fails, Royal Irish Constabulary, has not yet received his pension for either June or July, although that for June was payable on the first day of that month; whether he will see that this pension is paid at once, as Head Constable Fails has been put to considerable expense in removing his home from the station to which he was attached while serving in the Royal Irish Constabulary; and whether he will take steps to expedite the payment of pensions generally, the delay in paying which is causing considerable hardship amongst ex-members of the Royal Irish Constabulary?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I am informed that ex-Head Constable Fails was paid his pension for June on the 10th June through the Northern Banking Company, Belfast: and that a draft for his July pension was despatched to him on the 5th instant. The second part of the question does not therefore arise; as regards the last part of the question every effort is being made to expedite the payment of these pensions.
