HC Deb 26 July 1922 vol 157 cc457-8
57. Captain BENN

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether he proposes to take any action in consequence of the decision of the House to remove the Canadian cattle embargo?

The MINISTER of AGRICULTURE (Sir A. Boscawen)

To carry out the decision of the House legislation will be necessary. There is no administrative Order under which Canadian cattle not for slaughter at the ports could be admitted by the Ministry of Agriculture.

Captain BENN

As the House has decided on a policy, which the right hon. Gentleman described as a betrayal of his trust, to be carried out by him, what action does the right hon. Gentleman propose to take?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I shall do my duty.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

Is it not right that, following the decision of the House, this should be done at the earliest possible moment?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I always do my duty.
