HC Deb 25 July 1922 vol 157 c190
22. Captain LOSEBY

asked the Minister of Pensions the number of officers, non-commissioned officers, and men lodged in institutions conducted by his ministry who are certifiable under the Lunacy Acts, but who have not been certified; and if these men are lodged in the same institutions as non-certifiable patients?

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the MINISTRY of PENSIONS (Major Tryon)

When the mental condition of a patient in one of the Ministry neurological hospitals unhappily deteriorates towards insanity he is kept apart from the other patients, and every approved means of cure known to modern science is tried. Should the treatment fail to arrest the development of the malady before the stage at which certification is required by law, the necessary steps are at once taken for the patient's removal to a mental institution approved by the Board of Control.
