HC Deb 24 July 1922 vol 157 c22
64. Commander BELLAIRS

asked the Minister of Agriculture the period of quarantine imposed on store cattle imported into certain countries, including among them Canada and Switzerland; and the policy on which the lengthiest period for Switzerland is adopted?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

According to the latest information in my possession, the normal period of quarantine for cattle imported into Canada is as follows:—

  • From Newfoundland, United States of America, and Mexico, no quarantine.
  • From United Kingdom, 30 days.
  • From other countries, 90 days.
But since- February last, the importation of cattle from the United Kingdom into Canada has been totally prohibited. The importation of all cattle into Switzerland is at present prohibited. Prior to the total prohibition, the entry of store cattle was prohibited except from the bordering countries of France, Italy, Germany and Austria., and in such cases facilities were given for grazing purposes by special arrangement with the Cantonal Authorities concerned, but I have no information that any quarantine was enforced.
