Mr. HANNONasked the President of the Board of Education whether, in view of the inequality of treatment of teachers serving under different local education authorities owing to the fact that in certain areas the Burnham scales have been put in force and in others repudiated, he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation to ensure that teachers in all parts of the country receive the appropriate rates of remuneration to which they are entitled?

Member to suggest that the local education authorities should be placed under a statutory obligation to pay their teachers on the scales allocated to their areas by the Burnham Committee. My right hon. Friend is afraid that he does not see his way to adopt that suggestion.
