59. Mr. FOOTasked the Secretary of State for War whether he has made his inquiries as to the proposal to set aside any part of the Whitesand Bay, near Plymouth, for gun practice; and whether he has considered the serious effect any such action would have upon the fisher men of Looe, Polperro and Cawsand?
§ Lieut.-Colonel Sir A. SANDERSYes, Sir; I have made inquiries and have ascertained that there is no present intention of carrying out regular gun practice at Whitesand Bay. A few rounds only will be fired at intervals of years for testing purposes, and I have no reason to suppose that the interests of the fishermen will suffer. There have always been guns in the bay and they were fired from time to time before the War.
