19. Mr. A. T. DAVIESasked the Minister of Labour if he is aware that on 19th July instant a large number of workers, and in particular members of the Boilermakers, Iron and Steel Shipbuilders' Society, will have exhausted their State unemployment benefit, namely, 90 days since 6th April last; whether he is aware that these workers will not be entitled to any further benefit until November next; that many of them will also be without trade union benefit and will thus be thrown upon Poor Law benefit and cause an increased poor rate in the districts affected by unemployment: whether the matter has been under consideration; and what arrangements to meet the position of these workers are contemplated?
