HC Deb 04 July 1922 vol 156 cc166-7
4. Colonel WEDGWOOD

asked the Under-Secretary of State for India whether the General Council of the Burmese Associations, while discussing the advisability of co-operating in the formation of the new Legislative Council, was served with notices under the Criminal Procedure Code and declared to be an illegal meeting; whether the local Government authorised this action by the police; and, if so, on what grounds?

Earl WINTERTON

I have no knowledge of the circumstances alleged.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

There were telegrams in the Press two or three days ago!

Earl WINTERTON

I am not responsible for what is in the Press.

Colonel WEDGWOOD

Would it be possible for the Noble Lord to make inquiries?

Earl WINTERTON

Yes, I will do so.
