HC Deb 14 December 1922 vol 159 c3138
53. Rear-Admiral SUETER

asked the Prime Minister whether he will appoint a representative committee to inquire into the question of setting up a Board or Ministry of Defence, with executive powers, for the more efficient and economical administration of the Navy, Army, and Air Services, as briefly outlined in the Ministry of Defence (Creation) Bill, introduced by several service Members last Session?

The PRIME MINISTER

As this question is under consideration by the Committee of Imperial Defence, I do not think any useful purpose would be served by setting up a committee such as is referred to in my hon. and gallant Friend's question.

Captain BENN

Are the Cabinet Committees which were set up by the late Government to consider the coordination of the Services, continuing their labours?

The PRIME MINISTER

That has not been done. It is being considered, as I have already said, by the Committee on Imperial Defence.
