§ 57. Mr. HURDasked the Prime Minister whether consideration is being given to the suggestion of Sir Halford Mackinder that, in order to encourage thrift, savings invested in national savings certificates or deposited in the Post Office and trustee savings banks should not be reckoned against the award of an Old Age Pension?
§ Mr. BALDWINI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by me on this subject on Tuesday last to my hon. Friend the Member for Moseley (Mr. Hannon).
§ Mr. HURDIn view of the strong feeling on this subject amongst electors of all parties in the country, would it not be possible to go into this question again with a view to making the old ago pension an encouragement and not a deterrent to thrift?
§ Mr. BALDWINI do not think so at present.
