Mr. MALONEasked the Minister of Labour whether, in view of the fact that the Unemployment Insurance (No. 2) Act will expire before the House reassembles, he has considered taking powers before the Adjournment in order to continue the provisions of this Measure or, if not, what steps do His Majesty's Government intend to take to deal with unemployment during the forthcoming winter?
§ Dr. MACNAMARAThe Unemployment Insurance (No. 2) Act, 1922, deals with the period up to 1st November next. The winter months are, however, already covered by other legislation, which provides for benefit up to a maximum of 22 weeks as from 1st November onwards.
