HC Deb 15 June 1921 vol 143 cc393-4
26. Lieut.-Colonel Sir F. HALL

asked the Minister of Labour whether his attention has been called to a case which occurred recently in which dock men refused to coal a ship on the ground that this would have disqualified them from receiving the unemployment dole at the end of the week in which the job was required to be done; and whether it is possible to prevent such an abuse as this of the unemployment grants?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I know of no authority for this allegation of abuse beyond a newspaper paragraph which does not state where the case occurred. The particulars as given in this paragraph and quoted in the question are obviously inaccurate in some respects. If, however, my hon. and gallant Friend will give me precise particulars of the case, I shall be glad to make inquiry.
