HC Deb 15 June 1921 vol 143 c393
24. Mr. BRIANT

asked the Minister of Labour whether, considering the number of women who have to sign on at the Borough High Street Employment Exchange, it can be arranged for the office to be open in the morning as well as the afternoon as is arranged for in other exchanges?

Dr. MACNAMARA

I would draw my hon. Friend's attention to the terms of my reply, of which I am sending him a copy, to a question by the hon. Member for Plaistow on the 13th May, in which I explained the various steps which had been taken to avoid congestion at employment exchanges during the abnormal conditions of the present time. The women's department of the Borough Exchange is open all day during the usual hours, but a timing system is in operation under which claimants are required to attend to give proof of unemployment at stated hours in order to avoid queues, and to reduce the period of waiting.
