HC Deb 18 April 1921 vol 140 cc1533-4
67. Lieut.-Colonel GUINNESS

asked the Minister of Agriculture whether arrangements are being made to give self-contained holdings to applicants in the particular localities for which they ask; and what instructions have been issued to county councils upon this point?

Sir A. BOSCAWEN

I presume my hon. and gallant Friend is referring to holdings equipped with a cottage and buildings, which are self-supporting, i.e., which provide a tenant with a sufficient means of livelihood. Every effort is made to provide applicants with such holdings in the localities for which they ask, but if this is not practicable, applicants are expected to move to some other district, if a holding of the character and size for which they have been approved as suitable is available there. Instructions to this effect were sent to county councils in 1919.
