HC Deb 20 October 1920 vol 133 cc911-2
24. Mr. G. THORNE

asked the Minister of Transport the names of the railway companies which are now issuing excursion tickets?

Mr. NEAL

The following companies were, up to the commencement of the coal strike, issuing holiday tickets at reduced fares:

Belfast and County Down.

Cambrian.

Cheshire Lines Committee.

Furness.

Great Central.

Great Eastern.

Lancashire and Yorkshire.

London, Brighton and South Coast.

Midland.

North Staffordshire.

South Eastern and Chatham.

Some other companies have issued cheap tickets for holiday traffic, but had ceased to do so at earlier dates.

Colonel MILDMAY

May I ask whether the failure of some companies to issue excursion tickets has not been due to their inability, for reasons beyond their own control, to get the necessary work done in connection with rolling stock and periodical repairs to engines?

Mr. NEAL

I have no doubt that that is so.
