HC Deb 03 May 1920 vol 128 cc1673-4
5. Brigadier-General WIGAN

asked the President of the Board of Trade whether he is aware of the difference in the wholesale price paid to farmers for their milk and the price at which it is retailed to the consumer in London; and whether he will make investigations to ascertain if the price to the consumer can be reduced?

Sir R. HORNE

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. A Sub-Committee was appointed by the Standing Committee on Trusts on the 27th January last to investigate the question of agreements and other conditions affecting prices in connection with the milk trade, including milk products, so far as they relate to the consumer in this country, and I am calling the attention of the Sub-Committee to the suggestion made by my hon. and gallant Friend in the last part of the question.
