48. Mr. ADAMSON

asked the Prime Minister whether any decision has been come to affecting the future of Woolwich Arsenal and other Government factories; and whether he is prepared to make a statement on the Government's policy with regard to the provision of alternative work in these factories, in order to avoid discharges of workmen and employ the machinery on useful and productive work?

The PRIME MINISTER

The Government, in accordance with their promise, are doing all they can to provide alternative work in the present abnormal conditions.

In view of the statement made as to the cost of working the Woolwich Arsenal factory, before any extension of this principle is made will the right hon. Gentleman appoint a Select Committee to investigate and examine as to the cost?
