§ 50. Mr. HURDasked the Prime Minister whether, with a view to greater efficiency and economy in administration, he will appoint a committee to investigate the financial relations between the central and municipal authorities and recommend the proper division of local expenditure between the national and local exchequers?
§ Dr. ADDISONMy hon. Friend is no doubt aware that this question was exhaustively investigated by a committee which reported just before the War, but I am afraid I cannot at the present time add anything to the answer which I gave him on the 1st of March.
§ Mr. HURDMay I ask the Prime Minister, to whom this question is addressed, as it is a question of public policy, whether he is aware that nine months ago a Minister gave a definite assurance to this House that the question was under serious consideration by the Government?
§ Mr. SPEAKERThe hon. Member should give notice of a question of that sort.
