HC Deb 25 March 1920 vol 127 c595
50. Mr. HURD

asked the Prime Minister whether, with a view to greater efficiency and economy in administration, he will appoint a committee to investigate the financial relations between the central and municipal authorities and recommend the proper division of local expenditure between the national and local exchequers?

Dr. ADDISON

My hon. Friend is no doubt aware that this question was exhaustively investigated by a committee which reported just before the War, but I am afraid I cannot at the present time add anything to the answer which I gave him on the 1st of March.

Mr. HURD

May I ask the Prime Minister, to whom this question is addressed, as it is a question of public policy, whether he is aware that nine months ago a Minister gave a definite assurance to this House that the question was under serious consideration by the Government?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. Member should give notice of a question of that sort.
