HC Deb 25 March 1920 vol 127 c591
31. Viscount CURZON

asked the Prime Minister what steps His Majesty's Government are taking, or propose to take, to encourage and facilitate the use of alternative fuels and sources of supply of fuel for use in internal combustion engines, with a view to lowering the present high cost of such fuel.

The PARLIAMENTARY SECRETARY to the BOARD of TRADE (Mr. Bridge-man)

I have been asked to reply, and can at present add nothing to the answer which I gave to a question asked by the hon. Member for the Barnstaple Division on the 22nd March.

Viscount CURZON

Are we to understand from the reply of the Government that the Government will take no steps whatever in the matter?

Mr. BRIDGEMAN

No, Sir. If he will read the reply to which I have referred he will see that we are engaged in doing everything we can to try and produce other kinds of fuel possible to use.

Mr. BILLING

Surely the Government can bring some pressure to bear on certain Members of this House who are closely associated with the control of petrol in this country, and the Government?
