HC Deb 25 March 1920 vol 127 cc576-7
18. Mr. W. THORNE

asked the President of the Board of Education whether he is aware that, in consequence of the Board of Education fixing 48d. as the prescribed amount under Article 6 (2) of the Regulations for substantive grant of public elementary education, it will make a difference in the Borough of West Ham of £53,000 per annum, which is equivalent to a 10½d. rate; whether he can state that any other district in the different parts of the country will be affected to the same extent; and whether it is the intention of the Board of Education to alter the Regulations so as to enable the various local authorities to receive the same proportion of grants as granted before the new Regulations were made?

The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Fisher)

I am doubtful whether my hon. Friend's calculation is correct. But I shall be glad to look into the figures on which the calculation is based if my hon. Friend will furnish me with them.

Sir E. WILD

Will the right hon. Gentleman receive a deputation on that subject.

Mr. FISHER indicated assent
