§ 69. Earl WINTERTONasked the Secretary of State for War whether, in view of the large number of eligible Regular officers who served overseas on a war front, he will consider the appointments that have been made to Territorial brigade and divisional commands of Regular officers who did not serve overseas in the late War?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLNo Regular officer who has not served overseas on a war front has been appointed to command a Territorial Force division or brigade.
§ Earl WINTERTONIs it not a fact that an officer who has been appointed in Sussex to command a division had no service overseas, but has had all his service in this country? Will the right hon. Gentleman make inquiries?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLIf the Noble Lord will give me the name of the officer I will certainly say whether his facts are correct. I asked specifically and I was informed that it was not so. The officer about whom this was alleged has seen very hard service in the early days of the War.
§ Earl WINTERTONWill the right hon. Gentleman allow me to give him the name privately?
§ Mr. CHURCHILLYes.
