§ The SECRETARY of STATE for the HOME DEPARTMENT (Mr. Shortt)As I pointed out yesterday in reply to a question by the hon. Member for Wallsend, the maintenance of the Tyne River Police does not fall on public funds, and the force is not subject to Government in spection, and probably these considerations influenced the Committee.
