44. Mr. DOYLEasked the Minister of Health if his attention has been called to the complaints of the Metropolitan retail butchers, as well as the public, to the inferior and, in many cases, bad meat which is being placed on the London market; and if he will institute a short inquiry into the causes, with a view to remedying the evil and punishing the offenders?
§ Dr. ADDISONLocal authorities have full powers for dealing with any meat which is found to be diseased, unsound, unwholesome, or unfit for the food of man. The information at my disposal as a result of inquiries recently instituted does not point to the existence of any considerable amount of meat on the London market coming within this description. If my hon. Friend has any cases in mind and will send me particulars, I will inquire into them.
