§ 37. Sir Robert NEWMANasked the Prime Minister whether, in drafting the final terms of peace with Turkey, the Supreme Council, bearing in mind the strong feeling that exists among Christians of practically all denominations in this and other countries that the Church of St. Sophia at Constantinople should cease to be used as a mosque and revert to its original purpose as a Christian place of worship, will take steps to prevent its further misuse as a mosque and its restoration to the use for which it was built as one of the great shrines in Christendom.
§ The PRIME MINISTERAs at present advised the Allies do not contemplate any change in this matter.
