HC Deb 02 March 1920 vol 126 c226
5. Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affiairs if he has any information as to what decision the Government of the United States has come to with regard to the question of compulsory military training for its army?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

I understand that the proposal is still under consideration by the United States Congress.

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Is it not a fact that nothing definite has been settled in regard to this matter, and is not the statement of the right hon. Gentleman the Minister for War that America has retained conscription very premature, if not to say completely false?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

The Minister for War is on the front Bench, and that question should be addressed to him.

Lieut.-Colonel MURRAY

Is it not the case that the Military Affairs Committee has rejected the proposal?

Lieut.-Commander KENWORTHY

Might I address my question to the Minister for War?

Mr. SPEAKER

The hon. and gallant Gentleman should give notice of it.
