HC Deb 30 June 1920 vol 131 cc431-2
58. Sir R. THOMAS

asked the Prime Minister whether he is aware that pitiful cases are continually coming before the magistrates of ex-soldiers being unable to obtain a home; and whether he will take steps to repatriate all the foreigners in this country until our ex-service men have been provided for?

Mr. BONAR LAW

I quite realise that there are many cases of hardship such as are referred to in the question, but the suggestion contained in the last part of the question is not, I think, practicable.

Sir R. THOMAS

Can the right hon. Gentleman not see his way to appoint a Committee to deal with the hardships of these men, and does the right hon.

Gentlemen not know that they are suffering a great deal?

Mr. BONAR LAW

Indeed I do, and it is one of the chief pre-occupations of the Government; and it is also the cause of a very large expenditure of money.
