HC Deb 24 June 1920 vol 130 cc2381-2
107. Sir J. D. REES

asked the Minister of Health whether he is aware that the Bradford Corporation has adopted a system whereby each tenant directly pays his own rates, the corporation saving £24,000 a year in consequence of its avoiding by this arrangement the payment of discount to landlords; and whether a system so beneficial to corporations, landlords and tenants can be introduced in all corporations?

The MINISTER of HEALTH (Dr. Addison)

I understand that the Finance Committee of the Bradford Corporation have recommended the adoption of the system of direct rating. The matter is one which is entirely within the discretion of the local authorities.
