HC Deb 17 June 1920 vol 130 c1431
22. Brigadier-General SURTEES

asked the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs whether, with reference to a communication made on 10th June by the Greek legation in London to the Press, the peace terms submitted to Turkey for consideration are to be enforced by Greece before the time appointed for such consideration has expired; and whether at the present moment this country has any representative in Smyrna, or whether he has been recalled to India, at a time when it is so important to know the British point of view?

Mr. HARMSWORTH

The Peace Terms submitted to Turkey for consideration are not to be enforced by Greece before the time appointed for such consideration has expired, but in some districts the Greek forces are acting as the Mandatory of the Allies in Turkish territories under Allied occupation. At the present time this country is represented in Smyrna by an officer styled "Representative of the British High Commissioner at Constantinople." He has not been recalled.
