§ 66. Sir CHARLES OMANasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether the price of silver bullion has fallen from 88d. to 45d. or less per ounce since the passing of the Silver Currency Act; whether any depreciation of the old standard of purity of the silver currency of the realm is now necessary for economic reasons; and whether it would now be possible to coin at the old standard with a high rate of profit to the Crown?
Mr. CHAMBERLAINI would refer my hon. Friend to the answer given by my right hon. Friend the Financial Secretary on Tuesday last to the hon. and gallant Member for Kingston-upon-Hull (Colonel L. Ward).
