HC Deb 17 June 1920 vol 130 c1456
79. Mr. SWAN

asked the Minister of Transport if he is aware of the inadequate train service on the Stanhope and Weardale line, county Durham, and of the very bad connecting service to other parts of the county; and if he will urge the North Eastern Railway Company to increase the number of passenger trains and make better connection arrangements?

Mr. NEAL

My attention has not been previously called to the Stanhope-Weardale train service; but I will have inquiry made of the railway company concerned. In order that the inquiry may be complete, I shall be glad if the hon. Member will furnish me with particulars of the connecting services to other parts of the county which he regards as unsatisfactory.

Mr. SWAN

In the event of the Ministry of Transport being unsuccessful in their powers of persuasion to get this Committee to meet the requirements of the public will he make a reasonable proposition to them that some cattle trucks be linked on to some of the mineral trains for the convenience of the public;
