§ 71. Mr. LYLE SAMUELasked the Chancellor of the Exchequer whether he will state what the total revenue from carriage licence duties was for the year 1919–20; what proportion of the amount was derived from duties on horse-drawn vehicles; and what proportion from mechanically-propelled vehicles?
§ Mr. BALDWINThe final figures are not yet available, but from such figures as are in my possession it is estimated that the total receipts from Carriage Duties for the year 1919–20 were approximately £1,690,000. For a similar reason it is not practicable to state the proportions of this total due respectively to horse-drawn and mechanically-propelled vehicles. The total receipts from horse-drawn vehicles however are not expected to exceed those for 1918–19, namely, £242,000. Duties on horse-drawn vehicles are not levied in Ireland.
