§ Mr. CHURCHILLSince the 1st February last, the actual staff of the War Office has been reduced by 16 per cent. In addition, the hours of overtime worked by the remainder of the staff have been reduced by 9 per cent., which is equivalent to a further reduction of about 8 per cent. in staff, making a total reduction of 24 per cent. During the same period the in-take of papers from the public has fallen by 24 per cent., so that there has been a pari passu reduction of staff.
