HC Deb 21 July 1920 vol 186 cc1993-4
13. Captain CROOKSHANK

asked the Minister of Transport whether, in order to prevent the constant taking up and re-surfacing of streets in the London area, he is considering the introduction of legislation making it compulsory within a definite period of time for all motor omnibuses to be fitted with pneumatic tyres?

Colonel ASHLEY

I am not satisfied that it would be in the interests of public safety at the present time to introduce legislation on the lines indicated by my hon. and gallant Friend.

Captain CROOKSHANK

Is it not a fact that in every other capital in Europe pneumatic tyres are fitted to motor omnibuses?

Colonel ASHLEY

I do not know, but I do know that if a pneumatic tyre burst on a two-decker omnibus there might be great danger.
