§ 63. Commander Viscount CURZONasked the Minister of Transport whether the London County Council propose to inaugurate certain new lines of motor omnibuses in London; and, if so, whether it is desirable that new lines of omnibuses should be inaugurated, which can only increase the prevailing congestion of traffic, pending the setting up of a London Traffic Board and carrying out the recommendations of the Committee on London Traffic?
§ Sir E. GEDDESThe answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. The Government have indicated general approval of the proposals of the 1947 Advisory Committee on London Traffic for the appointment of a London Traffic Authority, and it is considered that, pending the appointment of that Authority, only such omnibus services should be inaugurated by the London County Council as provide reasonable increased transport facilities, while avoiding additional congestion, unnecessary duplication or wasteful competition.
§ Viscount CURZONAre we then to understand that the Government have definitely made up their mind to carry out the Report of the Committee?
§ Sir E. GEDDESThe Government replied on that subject before. A Bill is being drafted at the present time, and the object is to see whether in fact machinery can be put into working.
