HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 c1947
25. Lieut.-Colonel Sir F. HALL

asked the Prime Minister what is the number of British prisoners remaining in Russian hands; what steps are being taken to secure their release; and whether the Government has retained any Russian prisoners as a guarantee of the humane treatment of British prisoners still held in Russia?

Mr. BONAR LAW (Leader of the House)

The naval and military prisoners number 55; there are, moreover, as was stated on the 6th instant by my hon. Friend the Under-Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, a number of civilians who have been imprisoned in Russia for reasons which have never been fully explained. I hope that the negotiations now in progress will secure their immediate release.

Sir F. HALL

Would my right hon. Friend answer the last part of the question?

Mr. BONAR LAW

There still are Russian prisoners in this country.
