HC Deb 12 July 1920 vol 131 c1927
12. Mr. HURD

asked the President of the Board of Trade when he proposes to increase the number of disabled ex-service men, which is now 469, on the temporary staff of the Board of Trade in place of the women, also temporarily employed, who now number 1,562?

Sir R. HORNE

On the 1st July the number of disabled ex-service men employed by the Board of Trade in a temporary capacity was 442 and the number of women (excluding charwomen) similarly employed was 1,168. A large proportion of the women are employed on shorthand and typewriting or in Departments which are in process of being wound up. Substitution will be effected as opportunity occurs.

Mr. HURD

Can more expeditious means be taken to release these women and give their places to ex-service men?

Sir R. HORNE

I can assure my hon. Friend that we are expediting this matter as rapidly as we can.
