HC Deb 26 February 1920 vol 125 cc1879-80
8. Captain REDMOND

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland how and where the £250,000 granted to him for reconstruction in Ireland is being utilised, and how much has already been expended?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Macpherson)

I will send my hon. and gallant Friend a statement, showing how and where this grant is being utilised, and the amount of approved expenditure.

Captain REDMOND

Has the whole amount already been expended?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I think not. I think that about £40,000 has not been spent.

Captain REDMOND

In that ease will the right hon. Gentleman see that the amount is allocated to other parts of Ireland besides Belfast?

Mr. MACPHERSON

I think that a great deal is allocated to my hon. and gallant Friend's constituency. Looking up the statement—which I am going to send my hon. and gallant Friend—I find that at least £4,000 is available still for Waterford, but has not been asked for.

Captain REDMOND

If it has not been asked for, I ask for it now.

Mr. DEVLIN

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware the reason it was not asked for is because we did not know it was there?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The hon. Gentleman must be speaking for himself, because I know that the hon. and gallant Member for Waterford knew it was there a long time ago.
