HC Deb 26 February 1920 vol 125 cc1875-6
2. Captain COOTE

asked the Pensions Minister whether he will give figures showing, respectively, the amount of money paid in grants by the King's Fund and the cost of administration.

The MINISTER OF PENSIONS (Sir Laming Worthington-Evans)

The total number of grants made is 36,303, involving payment of £1,137,459 0s. 3d. The cost of administration has not fallen upon the Fund, but has been borne as part of the general administrative expenses of the Ministry. It cannot therefore be stated with accuracy, but it may be estimated as approximately £35,000, exclusive of any additional administrative expenditure by local committees.

Captain COOTE

Is the right hon. Gentleman aware that statements have been circulated to the effect that the cost of administering this grant is almost equal to the amount of money expended on the grants, and will he take steps to have the figures circulated among the War Pensions Committees?

Sir L. WORTHINGTON-EVANS

I have not heard the statement. I am glad that my hon. and gallant Friend has asked this question, as the answer will, I hope, remove the misapprehension.
