HC Deb 26 February 1920 vol 125 c1908
69. Major MORRISON-BELL

asked the Minister of Health if he can see his way to shortening the period that now elapses between the casting of votes in a bye-election and the declaration of the poll?

Dr. ADDISON

The matter is still under consideration, and I am not as yet in a position to make a statement, but will hope to do so in a few days' time.

Major MORRISON-BELL

Will the right hon. Gentleman consider the desirability of giving a proxy vote to people leaving this country? Will he consider that solution?

Dr. ADDISON

That, with other suggested solutions, is now being considered.

Dr. MURRAY

Is it a fact that the Government are in no hurry to hear the results of bye-elections?

Dr. ADDISON

We are anxious to administer the law.
