HC Deb 23 February 1920 vol 125 c1293
47. Mr. ORMSBY-GORE

asked whether the military authorities in this country, and in India, were consulted before the Government gave their support to the formation of a British syndicate for the construction of a strategic railway across Persia from the Caspian Sea to Mesopotamia: and whether the construction of such a railway will be delayed until the political and military outlook in Russia and Central Asia is less hostile to the British Empire?

Sir H. GREENWOOD

All Government Departments are acting together in close consultation regarding any scheme for railway construction in Persia. Any railway must take a considerable time for construction, the survey even not having yet been carried out; and strategic requirements will not be lost sight of.
