§ 47. Mr. ORMSBY-GOREasked whether the military authorities in this country, and in India, were consulted before the Government gave their support to the formation of a British syndicate for the construction of a strategic railway across Persia from the Caspian Sea to Mesopotamia: and whether the construction of such a railway will be delayed until the political and military outlook in Russia and Central Asia is less hostile to the British Empire?
§ Sir H. GREENWOODAll Government Departments are acting together in close consultation regarding any scheme for railway construction in Persia. Any railway must take a considerable time for construction, the survey even not having yet been carried out; and strategic requirements will not be lost sight of.
