HC Deb 19 February 1920 vol 125 cc1014-5
10. Mr. LYNN

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether he is aware that there are 100,000 children of school age in Ireland for whom there is no school accommodation; and whether he can state when the Government proposes to remove this grievance?

The CHIEF SECRETARY for IRELAND (Mr. Macpherson)

I would refer my hon. Friend to the Education Bill, which I hope to introduce at an early date. It will contain provisions for improved school accommodation which will remedy the present unsatisfactory position.

Major O'NEILL

Will the right hon. Gentleman say whether the Education Bill to be introduced is the same as that introduced last year, or is it different?

Mr. MACPHERSON

It is the same Bill.

Captain WEDGWOOD BENN

If that is so, how does it fit in with the arrangements under the proposals of the Government in the Home Rule Bill?

Mr. MACPHERSON

We are making arrangements for that.

Mr. DEVLIN

Will the so-called Home Rule Bill or the so-called Education Bill be introduced first?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The hon. Member must put that question to the Leader of the House.
