HC Deb 19 February 1920 vol 125 c1020
17. Mr. MOLES

asked the Chief Secretary for Ireland whether his attention has been called to the serious financial condition of industrial schools and reformatories in Ireland due to the increased cost of living; whether the grant of 5s. by local authorities and 7s. 6d. by the Treasury has proved inadequate in England and has necessitated a further increased grant; and whether he will take the necessary steps to have a similar in creased grant from the Treasury given to Irish schools and reformatories in order to prevent them having to be closed?

Mr. MACPHERSON

The answer to the first part of the question is in the affirmative. This matter is at present under consideration in connection with representations which have been received from the Committee of Management of the Balmoral Industrial School, Belfast.
