Major GLYNasked the Prime Minister whether any Allied country within whose territory British military and other stores are lying awaiting disposal have placed any export, duty upon such stoles if sold in that country for foreign export; if so, whether this restriction greatly retards the sale of such stores by the Disposals Board; and whether representations have been made to such Allied Governments urging that such regulations may be modified?
§ The DEPUTY MINISTER of MUNITIONS (Mr. Kellaway)No export duty has been levied in these cases. As regards ordinary Customs duty leviable on goods imported, arrangements have been made with the Allied Governments concerned to any a commuted rate in respect of surplus stores sold. These arrangements compare very favourably with the rate leviable under the ordinary tariffs, and so far as can be judged have not retarded sales.
