HC Deb 17 February 1920 vol 125 c700
43. Mr. CLOUGH

asked the Home Secretary whether, in view of the number of women and children who come before the courts, he will consider the advisability of introducing legislation to provide for the appointment of at least one woman magistrate on every Bench in the United Kingdom?

Mr. SHORTT

The Lord Chancellor has taken active steps for selecting women for appointment as magistrates throughout the country, and no legislation beyond the recent Sex Disqualification (Removal) Act is required.

Mr. CLOUGH

Has the suggestion put forward in my question the right hon. Gentleman's sympathy and support?
