§ 65. Sir WILLIAM SEAGERasked the President of the Board of Education if the annuities to teachers under the provisions of the Teachers' Superannuation Act, 1898, are paid to the dependants of teacher soldiers who have fallen in the War; if not, is it proposed that they should be paid; and, if the annuities are not paid, is it proposed to refund the sums of money contributed under the provisions of the Teachers' Superannuation Act, 1898, by the deceased teacher soldiers to their dependants?
§ The PRESIDENT of the BOARD of EDUCATION (Mr. Herbert Fisher)Annuities under the 1898 Act are payable only to teachers subject to that Act who have attained the age of 65. The Act does not provide for the refund of the contributions of teachers who die before that age. I regret, therefore, that I have no power to pay annuities to the dependants of deceased teacher soldiers, or to refund the contributions which have been paid.
§ Sir W. SEAGERWill the right hon. Gentleman consider the very exceptional circumstances of the poor people whose sons or husbands have fallen in the War?
§ Mr. FISHERI am very well aware of those cases.
