HC Deb 12 February 1920 vol 125 c220
68. Mr. F. ROBERTS

asked the Food Controller, whether any arrangements have been made to ensure that an adequate supply of sugar is allotted to householders for home-grown fruit preserving during the present year; and, if not, whether, in order to prevent an unnecessary wastage of fruit, proper provision can be made for sugar to be procured for this purpose?

Mr. McCURDY

The Food Controller proposes to set aside a considerable quantity of sugar for the purpose of domestic preserving during the coming season. In view, however, of the fact that the world's supplies of sugar are still substantially below the normal standard, the amount available will not be so large as that distributed last year.

Sir H. BRITTAIN

If there is a scarcity of sugar why is it that most of the shops are filled with expensive chocolates?
