HC Deb 12 February 1920 vol 125 c223
56. Lieut.-Colonel POWNALL

asked the Chancellor of the Exchequer what extra amount of money he expects to realise from the spirit duties in the current financial year, in view of the removal of the restrictions on clearances?

Mr. CHAMBERLAIN

I am not yet in a position to give a trustworthy estimate, but I anticipate that the additional revenue from spirits due to the removal of restrictions on clearances will be in the neighbourhood of £5,000,000. So far as the House will permit, I shall be glad if I may be allowed to deal with these matters at the time of the Budget Statement, rather than attempt an anticipation.
